Conceived as pair: finished/unfinished, phase one and phase two of the Collins Loft create a double center around which the private interior and public exterior spaces cluster. Moving into each of these spaces is understood as an extended threshold, a floor/wall and program/material condition marking entry and exit as well as visual passage.
At one end of the long loft, the entry threshold clusters entry/study/kitchen through the material of steel becoming floor/desk/island. The second threshold at the other end allows bedroom/living/deck to be joined through the materials of cement board and concrete. Lining the space throughout are a series of 21 cementboard and steel pivot doors that create the corners allowing you to understand "interior" in all conditions.
