The interest in the site grew out of the contrast between the earlier pragmatic use of the land as a working farm and the romantic use proposed by the new occupants. Siting the house at the bend of the river allows it to be a link between the systemmatic and the pragmatic. It becomes a knot that winds together earth and sky, farmstead and river.
