The Mason Beach House is located in the second layer of houses at Bethany Beach on the Delaware ocean front. It's name is derived from the use of the roofscape/wall elements which operate to block the views of the houses in the first layer and to capture the two slices of ocean open to view. The primary view is from it's corner site and the secondary is found in the gap between houses.
Taking advantage of these views, the main floor of the house is located on the third floor with guest rooms and an entertaining space on the floor below.
The delicate sand on which the house sits together with the ocean storms it is open to creates the need for the ground level to be primaily a structural zone allowing the house to rest on pilings and creating secondary maintenance and beach facilities.
