The Spiral House grows out of the contradiction of grounded and floating. It develops two realms: the grounded public realm of the main living spaces anchored to the edge of the dramatic 30' vertical shear drop of the rock formation, and the floating private realm which connects the sky to the earth in the vertical skywells which slide through the second floor.

Beginning as a wall that emerges from the earth, the house steadily rises continuing the spiraling motion of approach and culminating in the entry courtyard. The continuous increase inherent to the space of the spiral finds itself here in the perspectival foreshortening of both plan and section.
